Sustainability at OPHARDT hygiene

We believe the economy, environment and society are interconnected and interdependent. We believe in providing opportunities for growth and success for individuals while committing to a sustainable future for our planet.

Together, we can drive positive change and build a more sustainable, shared future.

Our Goals.

Our Reporting.

Sustainability Reporting.

In 2018, we published our second annual Sustainability Report, working off the internationally recognized Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards framework. Our report includes disclosures on social and environmental topics, relating to all six manufacturing locations.

In integrating the societal and environmental dimensions into every decision we make, we hope to do our part in conserving our Earth now, and for generations to come.

Sustainable Packaging Initiative

In November 2018, we introduced molded fibre inserts specifically designed for use with our ingo-man® plus touchless and WECO dispenser series, to replace our polyethylene foam packaging. Molded fibre inserts offer a more sustainable, resource efficient alternative to petroleum-based foam packaging, while still providing the necessary protection for our products during transport. The inserts are manufactured using 100% post-consumer recycled fibres that can be recycled again - or even composted - at the end of their useful life. Because these inserts are 'nestable', packaging height is reduced by up to 60% when they are shipped to us from our supplier, and during disposal at end of useful life. Our new packaging has enabled us to fit additional units on our standard pallet, further boosting resource efficiencies and reducing associated greenhouse gas emissions.

World Environment Day 2018

On Tuesday, June 5th, we celebrated our second World Environment Day at our Beamsville location. This year more than 20 volunteers came out to help us expand our pollinator garden with a variety of native flowers, grasses, trees and shrubs. Our garden now includes more than 35 native plant species that will provide a continuous food source throughout the growing season for pollinators indigenous to our region.

Native plants make ideal partners for native pollinators. Native plants are adapted to the local climate and environmental conditions, and are often resistant to local pests and diseases.

OHMS registers 25 million hand hygiene events

In a milestone achievement, Europe's leading hand hygiene monitoring system has officially registered 25 million hand hygiene events.

The OPHARDT Hygiene Monitoring System® (OHMS) provides an integrated approach to hand hygiene compliance solutions. Together with the ingo-man® plus Weco dispenser, OHMS enables customers to monitor hand hygiene compliance wirelessly. OHMS WiFi enabled disinfectant dispensers wirelessly send dispenser usage data to a central database each time a dispenser is used, recording the location, time and dosage of each hygiene event.

Equipped with information collected by OHMS, users can optimize hand hygiene compliance by coordinating dispenser locations with areas of low or high usage, share relevant feedback with coworkers, and provide targeted hand hygiene training more effectively. Integrating OHMS into hospitals and other medical care facilities can lead to a measured improvement in patient care treatment quality. Read more here.

RESPONSIBILITY DONATES AMBULANCE

In 2016, a group of OPHARDT hygiene employees came together to found RESPONSIBILITY e.V. The goal of the RESPONSIBILITY Club centres around supporting communities around the world by providing life saving medical tools where they are needed most.

The inaugural project of the RESPONSIBILITY Club was to provide a much needed ambulance car to the General Trias Medicare Hospital located on the southwestern outskirts of Manila—a community located nearby our Cavite, Philippines manufacturing location. Through donations from employees and fundraising activities throughout the year, the RESPONSIBILITY Club was able to successfully raise the $20,000 USD necessary to purchase the fully equipped ambulance car. The ambulance was officially donated in December, 2017.
